What is "Energize?"

With 1/3 of all children and adolescents being overweight, an immediate change needs to be made nation wide. Obesity causes detrimental damage to the body and youth are under informed on proper health. Through this program, campers will accomplish a variety of activities that were designed to be fun and informational. All campers are welcome and will learn the basics to healthy living.

Topics that will be discussed:
  • Basic anatomy and muscle groups
  • Nutrition
  • Portion Control and Body Assessment
  • Heart Rate and Exercise
  • Exercise Prescription and Goals


How is this program different than any other exercise program?

This will not be a typical boot camp or weight lifting class that is normally offered at a workout facility. Energize was carefully designed by certified exercise professionals and is targeted for teenagers. The combination of exercise and proper lifting techniques will be carefully blended with lessons on overall health. The educational focus will teach campers a variety of skills that should be known and practiced at a young age. Obesity is not the direct focus, but will be addressed and reduced in long term projections. By teaching campers basic exercise and health skills, we are preparing them with the material needed to obtain a desirable and healthy weight as adults.

Teaching will be done through PowerPoint, hands on training, games, and activities. Prizes will be given out for game winners and by accomplishing a weekly goal by the end of the week. During the last section of class, each camper will be given a workout program tailored to the individual. They will be instructed on how to perform the exercises and correct form will be emphasized. By mastering the workout in a classroom setting with a personal trainer, campers will build the confidence they need to resistance train on their own.


What do we expect to accomplish with the program?

After five days of activities, campers will build confidence and become less intimidated by resistance training within a gym. They will also be able to track progressions in their workout programs and know how to keep progressing on their own. Campers will be shown how to access camp's website and locate the wellness page. From there, they will have the capability to login and compare their workout progressions to the rest of the class.

After completing a week of Energize, campers should be able to:

  • Track their own calories
  • Calculate the amount of calories they need for weight loss/gain
  • Distinguish correct portion sizes
  • Know the difference between portions and servings
  • Read food labels
  • Perform their workout program safely and confidently
  • Track their workout progressions
  • Create both short and long term goals

 

Program outcome

With a week of health and fitness related activities, participants will understand the most recent health concepts. Taught by certified professionals, individuals will learn to be healthy, strong, and how to pursue a lifelong healthy lifestyle.
